The Baldwin Wallace University Baseball Team Swept by John Carroll, 4-2 and 8-2

BEREA, OHIO --  The Baldwin Wallace University baseball team lost twice in an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader with OAC and Cleveland cross-town rival John Carroll University today (Saturday, April 14, 2007) at Heritage Field in Berea.  The Blue Streaks won the first game, 4-2, and the second game 8-2.

With its loss, the Yellow Jackets are now 9-12 overall and 3-3 in the OAC.  With its win, JCU is now 15-6 and 9-2 in the OAC.

In the first game, JCU scored once in the top of the first inning and twice in the second for a 3-0 lead. The Yellow Jackets came back with single runs in each the second and third innings to get as close as 3-2 but the Blue Streaks added an insurance run in the sixth to make the final count 4-2.

On the mound, freshman Brandon Fredericks (Richfield/ Revere) started and took the loss to fall to 0-2 overall. He was followed to the mound by senior relief pitcher J.D. Fullerton (Cuyahoga Falls) in the sixth. Fredericks allowed nine hits in five and one-third innings, all four runs (one earned) and struck out four Blue Streak batters.  Fullerton did not allow a base runner in one and two-third innings of scoreless relief. At the plate, junior leftfielder Shaun Slater (Wooster/ Norwayne) led BW with a pair of base hits and  added a run batted-in.

In the nightcap, BW scored twice in the bottom of the second to take an early 2-0 lead. A sixth run fourth inning put JCU on top.  The Blue Streaks would score two more in the seventh.

On the mound, senior right hander Brian Pille (Lorain Catholic) started and took the loss to fall to 0-3 on the season. Senior pitcher, Jim Wochele (Richmond Heights) pitched one and one third innnings in relief, striking out one batter, walking four and giving up two earned runs off of two hits.   Sophomore pitcher Jim Palko (Euclid) game in and pitched the sixth and seventh innings.  Palko allowed two hits and struck out one in the effort.  At the plate, the Jackets were led by senior catcher Bob Storesina (Canton/Glen Oak) who had an RBI triple in the second, followed by a sacrifice fly by junior third baseman Gerald Breedlove (Painesville/Riverside) to score Storesina.

The Yellow Jackets return to the Heritage Field tomorrow, Sunday, April 15 when they play a single non-league game versus Lake Erie College at 2:00 p.m.
