Jaskowak is OAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week and Glassburn is Women's Tennis Player of the Week
BEREA, OHIO — Baldwin-Wallace College junior Jim Jaskowak (Grove City, Pa./ Grove City) is this week’s Ohio Athletic Conference Baseball Pitcher of the Week and senior Meggie Glassburn (Canton/ Jackson) is this week’s OAC Women’s Tennis Player of the Week.
Jaskowak earned the honor for his efforts in a 1-0 victory against OAC rival Otterbein College during the first game of a Yellow Jacket doubleheader sweep on April 10 in Berea. In the opener, Jaskowak threw a complete-game four-hitter against the Cardinals. He struck out one and walked two and did not allow an Otterbein baserunner to reach third base.
For the season, Jaskowak is a perfect 4-0 with a 3.38 earned run average and has struck out 24 opponent batters in 32 innings pitched. Today, he and his Yellow Jacket teammates are in Columbus as B-W plays Capital University. Tomorrow, Jaskowak and his teammates travel to Alliance where B-W faces OAC arch-rival Mount Union College in two games with the first one beginning at 1:00 p.m.
Glassburn earned her accolade for compiling a perfect 4-0 singles and 4-0 doubles record last week as B-W had a 4-0 record and improved to 13-6 overall, 7-0 in the OAC and have won 11 straight matches.
Individually in singles, Glassburn beat Muskingum College’s Nicole Meyer by the scores of 6-1 and 6-0 on Monday (April 7), topped Capital’s Robin Burnett by the scores of 7-5 and 6-2 on Wednesday (April 9), Heidelberg College’s Morgan Harrigan by the scores of 6-0 and 6-0 on Thursday (April 10) and beat Marietta’s Laiuren McKeirnan by the score of 8-1 in a pro-set on Saturday (April 12). She outscored her four opponents, 45-9.
Overall, Glassburn is third all-time at B-W with 66 career singles wins and second all-time with 86 doubles wins and second with 152 combination victories. The 86 doubles wins are tied for the second most in B-W and OAC history. Current B-W Women’s Volunteer Coach Andrea Isaac is first with 87 career doubles wins. In addition to being an outstanding tennis player, Glassburn is a three-time All-OAC and two-time Academic All-OAC player.
Glassburn and the Yellow Jackets next play on Tuesday, April 15 when they travel to Ada to play Ohio Northern University in a big OAC match at 3:30 p.m. Both B-W (currently 7-0 in the OAC) and ONU (currently 6-1 in the OAC) are seeking the No.1-seed for the upcoming OAC Tournament (April 22-26). B-W is the defending OAC regular season and OAC Tournament champion.
