Six Baldwin-Wallace College Student-Athletes Named Academic All-OAC in Baseball

BEREA, OHIO — Six Baldwin-Wallace College student-athletes have been selected to the 2008 Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference baseball team.  The selections include senior second baseman Nate Luken (Dayton/ Chaminade-Julienne), senior shortstop Nick Radca (Amherst/ Marion Steele), junior pitchers Brandon Fredericks (Copley/ Richfield Revere) and Jim Jaskowak (Grove City, Pa./ Grove City) and junior outfielders Cody Kidd (Wellington) and Mike Brisky (Berea). Luken, Kidd and Brisky are all repeat honorees from the 2007 team.

Luken, a recent graduate with a degree in criminal justice who carried a 3.87 grade average, also was tabbed as a first-team ESPN THE MAGAZINE Academic All-District IV selection and is currently a candidate for Academic All-America accolades.  This season was Luken’s best as a collegian. In 33 games, he batted a career-high .321 with 36 base hits in 112 at-bats with 20 runs scored, three doubles, 18 runs batted-in, four stolen bases in four attempts and a team-high seven sacrifice bunts. Also stellar in the field, he had a .969 fielding average. For his career, Luken batted .298 overall (70-of-235) with 42 runs scored, five doubles, 35 RBI, seven stolen bases and a .969 fielding average. He will attend law school this fall and pursue a career in federal law enforcement.

Radca, a recent graduate with a degree in exercise science, earned a 3.52 grade average. The team captain batted a career-high .388 this season (47-of-121) with 27 runs scored, five doubles, one triple, 25 RBI, four stolen bases and a solid .944 fielding average. The second-team All-OAC selection ended his career with a .311 batting average (85-of-273) with 67 runs scored, 12 doubles, two triples, 42 RBI and seven stolen bases. Radca also had a .914 career fielding average. He also plans to attend graduate school and will pursue a career in the sports medicine and exercise science.

Kidd, a biology and pre-med major, carries a 3.79 grade average. He is both a two-time second-team All-OAC and two-time Academic All-OAC choice and joined Luken as a first-team ESPN THE MAGAZINE Academic All-District IV selection and as a candidate for Academic All-America accolades.  A team captain this season, Kidd hit .387 overall (60-of-155) with 34 runs scored, nine doubles, four triples, 26 RBI and 13 stolen bases. After three seasons on the varsity, he is batting .375 overall (122-of-325) with 91 runs scored, 13 doubles, eight triples, three homeruns, 52 RBI and 39 stolen bases. Kidd plans to attend medical school and become a doctor.

Fredericks is a business administration and accounting major who carries a 3.90 grade average. This season, he made nine appearances, including eight starts and compiled a 4-3 record with 35 strikeouts in 47 and two-third innings pitched. He also had two complete games. For his career, Fredericks is 4-6 overall with 44 strikeouts in 61 and one-third innings pitched.

Jaskowak, a business administration and accounting major who carries a 3.57 grade average, was the ace of the pitching staff.  In 11 appearances, including nine starts, Jaskowak compiled a 5-2 record with a 4.73 earned run average in 51 and one-third innings pitched.  He earned OAC Pitcher of the Week honors on April 14 following a 1-0 complete game-shutout win against Otterbein College. He had four complete games and two shutouts. For his career, Jaskowak has an 8-4 record in 25 appearances with five complete games and 69 strikeouts in 100 and two-third innings pitched.

Brisky, who graduated with a 3.72 grade average in business administration and is currently working on his master’s degree, still has one more year of athletic eligibility remaining due to an injury suffered his freshman year in football. The 2007 Academic All-OAC choice hit .210 this season (17-of-81) with 18 runs scored, two doubles, one triple, one homer and eight RBI. For his career, Brisky is batting .296 overall (55-of-186) with 38 runs scored, eight doubles, four triples, two homers, 26 RBI and five stolen bases.
