Baldwin-Wallace College Junior Outfielder Cody Kidd Named an Academic All-American in Baseball

BEREA, OHIO — Baldwin-Wallace College junior centerfielder Matthew “Cody” Kidd (Wellington) has been selected to the 2008 ESPN THE MAGAZINE Academic All-America baseball team. He is a third-team selection.
 
Kidd, a biology and pre-med major, carries a 3.79 grade point average and intends on becoming a doctor. He is both a two-time second-team All-Ohio Athletic Conference, two-time Academic All-OAC choice and two-time ESPN THE MAGAZINE Academic All-District IV selection.
 
A team captain and the Yellow Jacket leadoff hitter, Kidd compiled a .387 batting average in 38 games this season with 60 base hits in 155 at-bats with 34 runs scored, nine doubles, four triples, 26 runs batted-in and 13 stolen bases.  He also was hit-by-pitch five times and had a .497 slugging average, .434 on-base average and .980 fielding average.
 
After three seasons on the varsity, Kidd is batting .375 with 122 base hits in 325 at-bats with 91 runs scored, 13 doubles, eight triples, three homeruns, 52 RBI and 39 stolen bases.
 
In the classroom, Kidd is a Dean’s List student, a member of the Alpha Lambda and Chi Sigma Alpha honor societies, a Jacket Scholar and member of the B-W Bio-League.
 
“We are extremely pleased for Cody, his family and for our baseball program,” said veteran Yellow Jacket Head Coach Dr. Bob Fisher. “He is an outstanding student in the classroom, involved on campus, a great team leader and role model and one of the best baseball players in school history.  We also are fortunate that Cody will be back to lead us again next spring.”
