Honorable Mention NCBWA Hitter of the Week
BEREA, OHIO -- Baldwin-Wallace College junior leftfielder Mike Farrell (Wickliffe) was named as a Division III honorable mention Hitter of the Week by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association for his performance on B-W's annual spring break trip to Ft. Myers, Florida from March 6-12, 2005. Farrell is the second Yellow Jacket to be honored by the NCBWA in the past two years.
Farrell led the Yellow Jackets with a .478 batting average as he had 11 base hits in 23 at-bats and scored nine runs as B-W finished its trip 5-3 overall. His best game was a two homerun performance in a 13-4 win against Haverford (Pa.) College on the final day of the trip. Farrell also had three doubles, a team-leading four homers and 14 runs batted-in (1.75 RBI per game). He had an .846 slugging percentage and a .688 on-base average. In the field, Farrell had four chances in LF and did not commit an error.
A year ago, current senior third baseman Mike Turchan (Mayfield) was recognized by the NCBWA in its weekly national Division III Hitter of the Week awards and also for his efforts on B-W's spring trip of 2004 to Florida.
This past weekend (March 19-20), B-W had all of its games in its series with Urbana College wiped out due to inclement weather. The Yellow Jackets will be back in action this coming Saturday, March 26 when they open 2005 Ohio Athletic Conference play by travelling to Alliance to play arch-rival Mount Union College in an OAC doubleheader at 1:00 p.m.
