Last Home Game in the Brown & Gold on Saturday
BEREA, OHIO -- Baldwin-Wallace College would like to recgonize the nine senior players on their final home game of the 2005 season on Saturday against Wilmington, and in the Brown & Gold. The seniors have played outstanding this season helping the Yellow Jackets to its current 17-11 overall and 9-7 Ohio Athletic Conference record. We would like to thank them for all of their hard work and dedication to the Yellow Jacket baseball program.
Jay Watson is a business/accounting major and plans to pursue a career as an accountant upon graduation. Jay is playng his second year on varsity and has played both as a pitcher and outfielder. Jay has a solid .343 career batting average (12-of-35) and compiled a 2-1 pitching mark a year ago. He is one of the quickest Yellow Jackets. Jay is the son of Dennis and Elois Watson
Jason Albright is a sport management major who carries a better than 3.1 grade point average in the classroom. He is a four-year varsity player who will earn his third varsity letter this spring. He batted .462 as a freshman and hasn't stopped hitting yet. A year ago, Jason was third on the team in batting average at .363, had a very solid .954 fielding average and was named as a second-team All-Ohio Athletic Conference player for his efforts. He is again having a solid season as a senior, hitting .317. Jason has a .327 career batting average (88-of-269) with 59 runs scored, 10 doubles, one homerun and 34 RBI. More than his hitting, Jason will be known for both his fielding and leadership. He will graduate as one of the best glovemen to ever play shortstop at B-W and has a .937 career fielding average with more than 200 career chances. Jason is the son of Richard and Cynthia Albright.
Nick Slater is a sport management major who plans to be an athletic director upon graduation. He is a four-year varsity player who both pitched and played in the outfield and is one of the most athletic players on the team. At the plate, Nick has a .279 career batting average (24-of-89) and has stolen 10 bases in 17 attempts. On the mound, Nick has appeared in 16 career games, all in relief, and has a 2-2 record with a 5.40 ERA. His best collegiate season has been in 2005. This spring, Nick has a 2-2 mark with a sparkling 0.75 ERA and has allowed just one earned run in 12 innings pitched. Nick is the son of Bruce and Cindy Slater.
Pat Gallager is a physics and mathametics major and is playing in his fourth season on the baseball team. He is playing his third year at the varsity level and is a true team-leader in every aspect of the game. As a junior in 2003-2004, Pat split time as the starter at catcher with Adam Pajakowski and appeared in 19 games. This spring, Pat is again splitting time with Adam and is having his finest year as a Yellow Jacket with one homer and seven RBI. In addition, Pat has an outstanding .982 fielding average. Pat is the son of Tim and Cindy Gallagher.
Adam Pajakowski is a business administration major who is currently working on his Master's degree in accounting. During his career, Adam has been a leader both on and off the field and has spent four years on the varsity. He earned the Yellow Jacket Award as a freshman, was an honorable mention Academic All-OAC choice as a junior and carried a 3.69 grade average as an underclassmen. During his career, Adam has played in 87 games, including 73 starts. He has a .249 career batting average (52-of-209) with two homers and 20 RBI. Like Pat Gallagher, Adam is an outstanding defender who loves to throw out runners trying to steal. Adam is the son of Stephen and Mary Pajakowski.
Mike Turchan is a sport medicine and athletic training major who will go down in our baseball annals as one of the best to ever step on the diamond at Baldwin-Wallace College. Mike would like to become an athletic trainer and teacher upon graduation. Mike is a member of the Collegiate Organization for Athletic Student Trainers (C.O.A.S.T.), is a Dean's List student who carries a 3.5 grade point average in the classroom. Mike is competing in his fourth season on the varsity and is serving as the team captain. Mike enters today's game with some gaudy career numbers both as a hitter and as a pitcher. He has a .383 career batting average with 143 hits in 383 at-bats with 93 runs scored, 30 doubles, 23 homers and 120 RBI. On the mound, Mike has an 11-8 career record with a 4.28 ERA and 114 strikeouts in 157 and two-thirds innings pitched. As a freshman in 2002, Mike was named as the Rookie of the Year. As a junior in 2003-2004, Mike was named Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference player. He was selected as a first-team CoSIDA Academic All-District IV player and was named as an honorable mention National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Hitter of the Week (March 16/ Spring trip). He was subsequently named as the Ohio Athletic Conference Hitter of the Week (March 22). In addition, Mike was named as a first-team All-OAC and third-team Division III All-Mideast Region selection. As a senior in 2004-2005, Mike was named as the November STARR Student-Athlete of the Month for his efforts on campus, in the classroom and as a leader on the baseball team. Mike is the son of Douglas and Linda Turchan.
Bob Glavan is a health and physical education major who would like to become a teacher and coach baseball upon graduation. Bob is an outstanding student who has compiled a 3.786 grade point average in the classroom and also has spent four years on the varsity as a pitcher. Bob has appeared in 27 career games, including 11 starts and has a 3-5 overall record. Overall, Bob has 55 career strikeouts in 105 and one-third innings pitched. This season, Bob leads the Yellow Jackets with 38 and two-thirds innings pitched. Bob is the son of Bob and Debbie Glavan.
Aaron Krieger is a secondary education major who would like to become a teacher and coach. Aaron is a Dean's List student. During his career, Aaron has made 29 career appearances, including five starts (all this year) and has a 5-5 record with a 4.41 ERA and 45 strikeouts in 69 and one-third innings pitched. He is havng his best season as a senior in 2005. Aaron was named as the Ohio Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week on March 21 for his efforts in a 4-0 shutout win against Dominican (Ill.) University on B-W's spring break trip to Ft. Myers, Florida. Aaron was tabbed as the OAC Pitcher of the Week for the second time in 2005 on April 11 for his efforts in pitching a no-hitter in a 3-0 shutout win against Ohio Northern University in Ada on April 9. So far this season, Aaron has a 4-3 record with a 4.25 ERA. Arron is the son of Keith and Emily Krieger.
Andrew Russell is a history and secondary education major who would like to become a history teacher upon graduation. Andrew is a member of the Phi Etta Sigma and the Alpha Lambda Honor Society, is a member of the Dean's List and carries a strong grade point average. He is playing his third season on the varsity in 2005 and is having his best season as a collegian and is one of the top save specialists in the OAC with four. In addition this spring, Andrew has appeared eight games and has a sparkling 1.93 ERA in nine and one-third innings pitched. If the game is tight today, look for Andrew to come in and look to close it out for the Jackets. Andrew is the son of Terry and Susan Russell.
