Three Baldwin-Wallace College Baseball Players Have Been Named All-Ohio Athletic Conference

BEREA, OHIO — Three Baldwin-Wallace College baseball players have been named to the 2005 All-Ohio Athletic Conference honor squad. To see the entire All-OAC Baseball Team, please click here.

Named to the first-team as its utility player, for the second straight season, was Yellow Jacket senior third baseman and pitcher Mike Turchan (Mayfield) . At the plate, Turchan led the team in batting average at .392, base hits (38), runs scored (29), homeruns (nine), slugging average (.742), was second in RBI (36), on-base average (.466) and was tied for second in at-bats (97). On the mound, Turchan had a 2-3 record with a 5.14 earned run average. He made seven appearances with seven starts and two complete games. Turchan allowed 51 base hits including 37 runs scored (24 earned runs), 15 walks and struck out 33 batters in 42 innings pitched.

Turchan ends his four-year career with a .385 batting average with 145 hits in 377 at-bats with 95 runs scored, 30 doubles, 23 homers and 121 RBI. On the mound, Mike has an 12-8 career record with a 4.23 ERA and 122 strikeouts in 164 innings pitched.

Named to the second-team was junior outfielder Dan Melito (Massillon Washington) for the second consecutive year. At the plate, Melito led the team in doubles (10), was third in batting average (.373) and was fourth in base hits (31). Defensively, he finished the 2005 season tied for third in fielding average at .981.

In addition, junior outfielder Mike Farrell (Wickliffe) earned honorable mention All-OAC accolades. Farrell was second on the team in batting average at .381. He also had nine doubles, two triples, six homeruns and led the team with 38 RBI. More importantly, he had an outstanding .968 fielding average in the outfield committing just one error.

The Yellow Jacket baseball team finished the 2005 season with an 18-12 overall and 10-8 OAC record and and finished in a tie for fifth in the conference.
