Five Baldwin Wallace University Baseball Players Named to the All-Ohio Athletic Conference Team

BEREA, OHIO -- Five Baldwin Wallace University baseball players have been named to the 2004 All-Ohio Athletic Conference honor squad. To see the entire All-OAC Baseball Team, please click here.

Named to the first-team as its utility player was Yellow Jacket junior third baseman and pitcher Mike Turchan (Mayfield). At the plate, Turchan was second on the team in batting average at .383 and led the team in at-bats (128), base hits (49), triples (four), homeruns (eight), runs batted-in (40), slugging average (.727), was second in runs scored (30) and third in doubles (12) and on-base average (.444). On the mound, Turchan compiled an impressive 5-2 record with a 2.78 earned run average with 45 strikeouts in 54 innings pitched as the number two starter in the rotation.

Named to the second-team were senior pitcher Dale Koler (Brunswick), sophomore designated hitter Mike Farrell (Wickliffe) and sophomore right fielder Dan Melito (Massillon Washington).

Koler became just the third BW player in school history to earn All-OAC honors in baseball all four years. He ended his career as BW's all-time leader in wins (23). As a senior, Koler had a 5-1 record with a team-leading 1.78 ERA and 81 strikeouts in 60 and two-thirds innings pitched. His 11.9 strikeouts per game ranked ninth in Division III. Farrell led BW in batting average at .389 and tied Melito for the team lead with 13 doubles. In addition, Farrell had 42 base hits, scored 25 runs and had four homersa, 25 RBI and had a team-leading .468 on-base average. Melito hit .342 with 13 doubles, five homers and 33 RBI.

In addition, junior shortstop Jason Albright (Camp Hills, Pa./ East Pennsboro) earned honorable mention All-OAC accolades. Albright hit .363 with five doubles, a triple, a homer and 19 RBI. More importantly, he had an outstanding .954 fielding average at ss with just six errors in 131 chances.

The Yellow Jacket baseball team finished the 2004 season with a 20-14 overall and 9-8 OAC record and placed fifth in the conference. The 20-win season was BW's fourth straight and its sixth in the last seven years.
