The Baldwin Wallace University Baseball Team Loses to Nonleague Foe Oberlin

College, 9-3, at Heritage Field in Berea

BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin Wallace University baseball team lost today in nonleague action to Oberlin College, 9-3, at Heritage Field in Berea.

With the loss, the Yellow Jackets are now 18-13. With its win, Oberlin improves to 13-22. BW ends its nonconference regular season tomorrow (Thursday, May 6) with a single game against NAIA foe Malone College. The Yellow Jackets then end the OAC season with a pair of games at home against Capital University this Saturday (May 8) at 1:00 p.m.

BW led 2-0 after one innings before Oberlin scored a pair of runs in the top of the third inning to tie the score at 2-2. The Yeomen took a 3-2 lead in the top of the fourth inning with another run. Then BW scored its final run in the bottom of the fourth to tie the score at 3-3 before Oberlin exploded for six runs in the top of the seventh inning to claim the victory.

For the Yellow jackets in the bottom of the first inning with one out, junior third baseman Mike Turchan (Mayfield) singled, moved to second on a single by sophomore designated hitter Mike Farrell (Wickliffe). A walk to sophomore right fielder Dan Melito (Massillon Washington) then moved Turchan to third and Farrell to second. A fielder's choice scored Turchan. Farrell later scored when Oberlin starter Ryan Drews walked both senior first baseman Ryan Petraitis (Akron/ Manchester) and sophomore second baseman Kevin Brown (Cuyahoga Falls). The Yellow Jacket tally in the fourth came via a Brown single, steal of second and he scored on an Oberlin fielding miscue.

On the mound for BW, freshman Rob Lewis (Castalia/ Margaretta) suffered the loss and fell to 1-3 overall. Offensively, Farrell and Green led the BW attack with three hits each. Overall, the Yellow Jackets had nine base hits.
