BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin Wallace University baseball team was swept today (Wednesday, April 28) in an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader against OAC rival Heidelberg College, 19-6 and 12-4, at Peaceful Valley in Tiffin. BW has now lost five straight.

With the pair of losses, the Yellow Jackets are now 16-12 overall and 5-8 in the OAC. With the two wins, Heidelberg is 23-9-1 overall and 8-4 in the OAC.

In the first game, the Student Princes scored twice in the bottom of the first innings and four more times in each the second and third innings to build a commanding 10-0 lead. BW tried to come back with three runs in the top of the fourth inning, but Heidelberg put the game out of reach with five more in the bottom of the frame. When the Yellow Jackets tallied three times in the top of the fifth and trailed, 15-6, it was as cose as they got.

Offensively, BW had 12 base hits, including a three-run homerun by junior catcher Adam Pajakowski (South Bend, Ind./ Saint Joseph's) in the fourth inning. The homer was Pajakowski's second of the season. In addition, junior third baseman Mike Turchan (Mayfield Heights/ Mayfield) hit a solo homer, his seventh of the season, and sophomore right fielder Dan Melito (Massillon/ Washington) hit a two-run shot to account for the three-run fifth inning for BW. Melito's homer was his fourth of the campaign. Turchan, Melito, junior shortstop Jason Albright (Camp Hills, Pa./ East Pennsboro) and sophomore center fielder Matt Green (Elyria Senior) led the Jacket offense with two base hits each. On the mound, junior righthander Bob Glavan (Mentor) suffered the loss. It was his first loss of the season.

In the nightcap, Heidelberg again scored early and often en route to the win and a sweep. The Student Princes tallied four runs in the second, one in the third and three in the fourth to build an 8-0 lead. BW scored all four of its runs in the top of the fifth when Turchan hammered his eighth homer and first grandslam of his career to bring the Yellow Jackets as close as 8-4. Heidelberg then put the second game away with three runs in the bottom of the frame and added another run in the sixth for the final count. For the game, the BW offense had just four hits, including two by Albright. On the mound, freshman lefthanderer Rob Lewis (Castalia/ Margaretta) suffered his first loss of the season, falling to 3-1 overall.

BW will be back in action this Saturday, May 1 when they travel south to Wilmington, Ohio to play OAC foe Wilmington College in a 1:00 p.m. doubleheader.
