Yellow Jacket Baseball Team Splits With Dominican (Ill.), Now 4-2 on Spring Trip

BEREA, OHIO --  The Baldwin Wallace University baseball team received two strong pitching performances today (March 10) and split a doubleheader with Dominican (Ill.) College during its annual spring break trip to Ft. Myers, Florida.  BW lost the first game, 1-0, and won the nightcap, 11-0.  The Yellow Jackets, now 4-2 overall, will play again tomorrow (March 11).

In the first game, junior righthanded pitcher Cal Snyder (Canton/ South) pitched the best game of his collegiate career, a five-hitter with five strikeouts and no bases on balls, and was the tough-luck loser.  He is 0-1 overall.  Snyder allowed an unearned run in the third inning and that was the only scoring of the game.  Offensively, BW had just six base hits with six players each getting one safety.

In the nightcap, BW again received solid pitching from sophomore Jay Watson (New Philadelphia), freshman Jeff Suvak (Seven Hills/Parma Normandy) and junior Nick Slater (Wooster/ Norwayne)Watson pitched the first four innings and allowed just two hits and no runs and struck out two to improve to 2-0 overall.  Suvak added two innings of strong relief with two strikeouts and Slater tossed the seventh inning.

Offensively, BW had nine base hits in the nightcap.  Sophomore shortstop Dan Melito (Massillon Washington), sophomore rightfielder Mike Farrell (Wickliffe) and junior catcher Adam Pajakowski (South Bend, Ind./ St. Joseph's) each had a pair of base hits.  Melito led the team with three runs batted-in.  Sophomore second baseman Kevin Brown (Cuyahoga Falls) walked three times and scored three runs.

The Yellow Jackets will be back in action tomorrow (March 10) when they play Eureka (Ill.) College at 9:00 a.m. and the University of Minnesota at Morris at noon EST.  On its spring trip, BW plays 10 games in seven days.  The Yellow Jackets open northern play on March 20 with a doubleheader at traditional rival Wittenberg University.
