BEREA, OHIO - Congratulations to all of the Baldwin-Wallace College student-athletes who were honored at last weekend's B-W Student-Athlete Awards Ceremony at the College Union.
We had over 100 student-athletes with a 3.50 or higher cumulative grade point average who were selected as 2003-2004 Jacket Scholars. More than 60 student-athletes were inducted into Chi Alpha Sigma, the national college student-athlete honor society for juniors and seniors. This is the first year for that program. Junior softball student-athlete Julie Durkot (Parma/ Normandy) was named as one of 324 student-athletes from 1,175 nominations nationwide to attend the NCAA Leadership Conference this summer at the Disney Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando, Florida. In addition, junior women's basketball student-athlete Melissa Moutry (Copley), freshman track & field student-athlete Nile Smith (Killbuck/ Wooster Triway) and freshman football student-athlete Antoine Williams (Maple Heights) were also honored as nominees. In addition, we honored eight STARR Student-Athletes of the Month as well as all four-year letter-winners for their commitment, and recognized all Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference, All-OAC, NCAA and CoSIDA award winners.
Also to be congratulated are the male and female special awards winners. Junior women's golfer Emily Scheetz (Canton/ Perry) and junior football player Josh Jameyson (Wellington) were honored for Leadership; freshman Andrea Issac (New Philadelphia) and senior Sayre Wuhr (Hudson) were honored for Sportsmanship; senior women's basketball player Karissa Kusick (Chicora, Pa./ Karns City) and junior football player Tom Kovacevich (Strongsville) were honored as the Humanitarian Award winners; and, senior women's basketball player Lindsay Meek (Huron/ Port Clinton) and senior football player Randale Richmond (Akron North) were honored for their Campus/Community Service. Most Inspiring Professor Awards went to Dr. Clayton Dusek and Dr. Kathryn Matera.
