Women's Javelin Throw

<< Back to Events Recap Page

Notes: Carroll University (Wisc.) sophomore Amanda Trieloff improved on her eighth place finish last year to win the women's javelin with a throw of 150 feet, four inches. Junior Mackenzie Smith from the University of Redlands, and sophomore Lauren Butler from Allegheny College are the repeated as All-Americans in this year’s event.

Amanda Trieloff Quotes
Thoughts on improving from eighth a year ago to first today: “I actually switched up my approach. I actually used to do a back step, and now I do a traditional five-step approach. I really concentrated on that today.”
Feelings about her final throw being the best, and her progression throughout the competition: “At the start, I was on the side praying, I mean praying, to let me get into the finals. I was something like third-to-last going into the finals. I just knew I had to have a big one and pull out a big throw to have a shot at getting to where I wanted to be. The first throw I got like a 38 (meters) or something, and then my second I got like a 40 or so, and I know I had to go out there and finish strong for myself, my coaches, and for Carroll and go out there and represent Carroll.”Expectations coming into today: “Being here at nationals last year, my nerves were definitely worse today. I knew I had to throw it well. I think I was third coming into the competition today, so sitting down there at the finals today was pretty nerve-racking. I think my nerves and me were a lot worse than last year.”
