Jake Winder Quotes:
Talk about your experiences here with this being your third year at the national meet: “The people here tonight saw my first clearance at a national outdoor meet and my last clearance at a national outdoor meet. I have never made a height at the national outdoor competition. I no-heighted my sophomore year and I no-heighted my junior, and my senior year I just kept the faith and I stuck with it. I just kept going keeping up for practice early in the morning. My dad said that before honor comes humility, and I had to really humble myself and not think too much about last year or the year before.”
How were you able to channel those past experiences to be successful today?“I knew I needed to do it for my teammates and my coaches. We’re pretty good as an overall track team, and it’s awesome to have my teammates here to help me through this entire process. Having two of my teammates place in the top five today really helped me along. I’m not going to lie to you. That first bar today was really tough, as mentally I knew I hadn’t been able to clear in the last two championships. I just went up, and after I cleared that bar, it started to come together. The last two bars, it really came together and started to feel good and click for me. I started to feel the rhythm of the bar, and momentum played a huge factor for me today.”
