Notes: Thiel (Pa.) College senior Alex Eaton became a three-time All-American in the 400-meter dash as he won the 2010 national title in a stadium record time of 46.79 seconds. Eaton was runner-up last year and seventh in 2008. Gwynedd-Mercy College sophomore Dan Dunkleberger, who was seventh in 2009, finished second in a time of 47.00 and senior Luke Reschke of Monmouth (Ill.) was third in 47.06.

On using last year’s runner-up finish as motivation to become national champion this year: “Well, the motivation this year was mainly indoor, I was hurt all year and I took third indoor. I felt like I should have won indoor (400 meter run) and then seeing how everyone ran and knowing I should be up there further in the meet, it pushed me to work harder and practice for outdoor and stay healthy. ”
On his mindset entering today: “My mindset was I knew the two kids in front of me in (lane) four and five, I knew they were going to go out fast. My goal was to just stay with them, I know I’m strong, I know I could push it that last 200 (harder) than anybody so I just felt if I could just stay with them Id have a good chance to finish out that last 200 (meters). ”
