2009 Spring Highlights


Caitlin Myor

The softball team finished the season at 24-16 overall. Senior All-OAC first baseman Caitlin Myor (Sheffield Village/ Elyria Senior) tied the Baldwin-Wallace career record for most runs batted in with 123, shared with 2-time All-American Nicole Loudin, with a solo homerun in the first game. Junior outfielder Chelsea Saunders (Medina/ Highland) was tabbed as an honorable mention All-Ohio Athletic Conference selection and junior outfielder Mallory Kobak (Independence) was named to the 2009 National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-Central Region team. Sophomore catcher Tanya Davis (Hinckley/ Medina Highland) was named to the 2009 ESPN THE MAGAZINE Academic All-District IV softball team and the Academic All-OAC squad.

The women's golf team finished sixth at the 2009 OAC Tournament. Senior Lydia Cole (East Canton) was named to the 2008-09 All-Ohio Athletic Conference team. Cole was tabbed as an honorable mention selection.


Greg Patrick

The women’s outdoor track and field team finished second and the men placed third at the 2009 Ohio Athletic Conference Championship Meet at Wilmington College in Wilmington, Ohio. Highlighting the meet for the Yellow Jackets were junior thrower Greg Patrick (Collins/ Western Reseve), who was named as the OAC “Sparky” Adams Field Event Athlete of the Year, and the coaching staff, including veteran Head Coach Bill Taraschke, was tabbed as the OAC Women’s Coaching Staff of the YearPatrick and sophomore Kevin Phipps (Reynoldsburg/ Watkins Memorial) each turned in All-American performances at the 2009 NCAA Division III Track & Field Championships in Marietta, Ohio. Phipps placed seventh in the discus throw and Patrick finished eighth in the shot put. Patrick was also named the NCAA Division III Great Lakes Region Field Athlete of the Year. Five Yellow Jacket student-athletes were named to the 2008-2009 Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference team for cross country and track & field. Senior Nate Bowen (Fremont/Ross) earned Academic All-OAC honors for the men. Senior Rebekah Paul (Gibsonburg), juniors D’Arcy Hlavin (Berea) and Brittany Giesken (Ottawa/ Ottawa-Glandorf) and sophomore Katie White (Berea) earned honorable mention status for the women.


Alyssa Trampert

The women's tennis team finished 13-11 overall and advanced to the OAC Championship match for the third straight year. Five Yellow Jackets earned 2008-09 All-Ohio Athletic Conference accolades. Highlighting the selections was a first-team nod for sophomore number-one singles and doubles player Caitlyn Pecinovsky (Whitehall/ Columbus Bishop Hartley). Senior Alyssa Trampert (Orchard Park, N.Y./Orchard Park) sophomore Katy Marshall (Medina/ Senior) earned Academic All-OAC At-Large status.

The men's tennis team ended its season with a 19-4 overall record. Three Yellow Jackets earned 2008-09 All-Ohio Athletic Conference accolades. Highlighting the selections was a first-team nod for junior number-three singles player Andy Redd (Archbold). In addition to Redd, freshman No. 4 Alex Trzeciak (Avon Lake) was named a second-team All-OAC selection and senior No. 1 Jim Kucera (Mentor) was tabbed as an honorable mention selection.

The men's golf team, 32-27 overall, finished fifth at the OAC Tournament. Junior Nick Bryan (Zanesville/ Rosecrans) earned All-OAC honors for the second time in his career. Bryan and sophomore Brian Routhieaux (Gibsonia, Pa./ Mars Area) were each tabbed as Academic All-OAC selections.


Cody Kidd

The baseball team finished 19-19 overall and for the third time in the last four years. Senior centerfielder Cody Kidd (Wellington) and senior first baseman Riley Kreisher (Ashtabula/ Edgewood) ended their careers as the holders of several school single-season and career records and were each named ABCA All-Region selections. Kidd, senior outfielder Mike Brisky (Berea) and senior pitcher Brandon Fredericks (Copley/ Richfield Revere) were named to the 2009 ESPN THE MAGAZINE Academic All-District IV baseball team. Kidd, Kreisher and Fredericks were named 2009 All-Ohio Athletic Conference. Five Yellow Jackets were also named to the 2009 Academic All-OAC Team. They included Kidd, Brisky, Fredericks, senior pitcher Jim Jaskowak (Grove City, Pa./Grove City) and junior pitcher Justin Novak (Strongsville). Kidd was also selected to the first-team ESPN THE MAGAZINE Academic All-American team.
