Men's Race

Ricky Flynn -- Individual Champ of Lynchburg (Va.) - "I won the race in the last mile. It was uphill to the finish. It was intimidating running against him (Peter Kosgei-2008 Individual Champion from Hamilton (N.Y.)) but when I saw him ease up in the final mile, I just said I'm going for it.

Michael Spain -- Runner-Up Individually of North Central (Ill.) - I did not care about my personal finish, but was more focused on the team goal. Our goal was to win the national championship. This is the best feeling possible. We have so much pride in our program. We felt we owed it to the college to bring home a title.

Head Coach Al Carius of North Central (Ill.) (Team Champion) - "These young men have character; they have different ingredients and they mixed them together to win a championship. The process started many years ago with these seniors. I knew we had something when they first arrived here. I just had to put it all together. They had faith in the system and faith in their teammates."

Women's Race

Wendy Pavlus -- Individual Champ of St. Lawrence (N.Y.) - " With the preparation we did, the weather favored my abilites to win today. I wasn't planning on winning, but my fast start gave me the confidence to win from the beginning."

Hannah Humbach of Wisconsin Eau Claire - "I didn't think winning a championship was possible until last week when one of my teammates said to me 'Hey, I think we can win this thing.' We accomplished our goal (top-5) and took home the hardware in the process."

Wisconsin Eau Claire Coach Dan Schwamberger (Team Champion) -- "I am so proud of our women. We have been talking about this as our goal all year. We wanted to finish in the Top-5, but knew if we were in the top-5 anything was possible. The ladies have been patient with their training and that has paid off. We're close as a group and our runners are interchangeable. Our top 1, 2 and 3 runners have changed spots all year long and overall our top-5 are interchangeable. This was a true team effort."

Coach Dan Schwamberger: "This is my third at Eau Claire. Every year we have gotten better. I inherited a strong program and we have improved each year.  We were fifth last year and our goal was to improve.  We came here to win. This is a great feeling and quite emotional. I am so happy for the women. We did the little things to be successful and were committed.  Our plan worked out and that's rare."

D'Arcy Hlavin of Baldwin Wallace -  "The course was muddier and slower than I anticipated, but I was able to forget about everything and just run my race. I am very proud of how my teammates ran and having everyone with me this year made the experience unforgettable."

Kim Chinn of Baldwin Wallace - " At the start, I had a mix of excitement and calm. The race started so fast and we went out in 5:40, but I was able to run my race and I had a great day at the perfect time."

Baldwin Wallace Coach Bill Taraschke: We ran extremely well, we ran better as a pack than we have in past meets. It was one of our best races of the year. DArcy (Hlavin) and Kim (Chinn) ran their usual race and ran very well. Sarah (Rospert) ran an excellent race and did a great job of staying with the pack.  Every runner on our team contributed and Im extremely proud of each of them."
