2008-09 Winter Highlights


Todd Richert

The B-W men's swimming and diving teams served as hosts of the 2009 OAC Championship Meet hosted at the University of Akron.  The Yellow Jacket men broke 11 school-records during the meet and junior Vince Colwell (Parma/Normandy) set an OAC mark in the 100-yard backstroke. Sophomore two-time All-American diver Todd Richert (North Royalton) finished sixth on the one-meter board and 14th on the three-meter board at the Division III National Meet at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center from March 19-21. Richert is now the only four-time All-American in B-W swimming and diving history.


Jessica Butzer

The women's basketball team, 22-8 overall, ended its season in the second round of the NCAA Division III National Tournament. Sophomore guard Amanda Schroeder (Columbus Grove), senior guard Jessica Butzer (Orrville) and junior center Ariel Brough (Powell/ Olentangy-Liberty), were named to the 2009 All-OAC team. Brough was also named an ESPN THE MAGAZINE Academic All-District IV selection. Four Yellow Jackets also earned Academic All-OAC status.

The men's basketball team defeated Marietta College in its season finale on "Take a Kid to the Game" day in Berea. Senior center Andrew Bene (Hinckley/Medina Highland) became the 36th member of the B-W 1,000-Point Club and was named second-team All-OAC. Senior guard Dennis Santiago (Brookpark/Midpark) earned Academic All-OAC honors for a third consecutive season.

The wrestling team placed fifth at the OAC Championship Tournament Muskingum College in New Concord. Sophomore Andrew Scavuzzo (Cuyahoga Falls/Woodridge) captured the 174-pound title and qualified for the Divsion III National Championship Meet.

The women's indoor track and field team placed third and the men were fourth at the Ohio Athletic Conference Championship Meet at Capital University. Sophmore thrower Kevin Phipps (Reynoldsburg/ Watkins Memorial) was selected to compete at the NCAA Division III National Indoor Track & Field Championship Meet on Friday and Saturday, March 13-14, 2009
