Three Baldwin Wallace University Spring Sport Standouts Named as Ohio Athletic
BEREA, OHIO -- Three Baldwin Wallace University spring sport standouts, senior two-time All-Ohio Athletic Conference leftfielder Mike Farrell (Wickliffe), junior righthanded pitcher Clayton Kynkor (Auburn Township/ Chagrin Falls Kenston) and sophomore men's tennis All-OAC and number one singles player James Daly (Akron/ Firestone), have been named as OAC players-of-the-week based on their performances on their spring trips to Florida and South Carolina, respectively.
Farrell led all Yellow Jacket hitters with a .423 batting average, three homeruns and an .885 slugging average as BW finished 6-3 on its trip to the Annual Gene Cusic Classic in Ft. Myers, Florida. He also scored eight runs, had three doubles, a .515 on-base average and did not commit an error in the field. A year ago, Farrell also earned OAC Player of the Week and NCBWA (National Collegeiate Baseball Writers Association) honors for his efforts in Ft. Myers. For his career, Farrell is batting .390 (90-of-231) with 53 runs scored, 25 doubles, three ytriples, 13 homers and 71 RBI.
On the mound, Kynkor compiled a 2-0 record with a team-low 0.69 earned run average and had a team-high with 11 strikeouts in 13 innings pitched. He tossed the first six innings and five hits, an unearned run and struck out three in a season-opening 3-2 win versus Thiel (Pa.) College. In his other outing in Ft. Myers, Kynkor pitched the first seven innings in a 12-3 victory against Olivet (Mich.) College when he allowed four hits, an earned run and struck eight Comet batters. For his career, Kynkor is a perfect 6-0 in 14 appearances, including eight starts. A year ago, he fashioned a perfect 4-0 mark with a 3.81 earned run average in eight appearances, including five starts.
Daly highlighted the men's tennis trip by leading the Yellow Jackets to a perfect 6-0 record in Hilton Head, South Carolina. Individually, Daly had a 6-0 mark at first singles and is 14-2 overall this season, including an impressive 10-1 in dual matches. He also teammed with freshman Jim Kucera (Mentor) to post a 6-0 record at No. 1 doubles. Last spring, as a freshman, Daly had a school-record 29 wins and a 29-2 record and played No.2 singles and helped BW compile a 23-2 overall record and win a second straight OAC title. He has a 43-4 career record. This season, BW is a perfect 11-0 overall and has won 18 straight matches dating back to last season.
The Yellow Jacket baseball team is back in action on Saturday, March 18 when they travel to Urbana, Ohio to play Urbana College in a doubleheader beginning at 1:00 p.m. The men's tennis team is back in action on Saturday, March 25 when it opens OAC play at Mount Union College at 1:00 p.m.
