Three Baldwin-Wallace College Student Athletes Named as Ohio Athletic

Conference Players of the Week

BEREA, OHIO -- Baldwin-Wallace College sophomore outside hitter Kelsey Hills (Toledo/ St. Ursula) is this week's Ohio Athletic Conference Volleyball Player of the Week. Freshman men's swimmer Sean Sonnenberg (Napoleon) is this week's OAC Men's Swimmer of the Week.  And, sophomore goalie Michelle Neff (Strongsville) is this week's Ohio Athletic Conference Soccer Player of the Week. It is the first time that both Hills and Sonneberg have earned Player of the Week honors and the second time this year for Neff.

Hills helped the Yellow Jackets finish with a 3-2 record last week with wins over Heidelberg in the OAC regular-season finale and Alma (Mich.) and Carthage (Wisc.) at the Wittenberg University Fall Classic. In five matches, Hills tallied a team-highs in kills (72), attack percentage (.290), and service aces (15). She also recorded 102 defensive digs. In the win against Heidelberg, she had a career game with a team-high 25 kills, a .423 attack percentage and 31 digs. At Wittenberg, Hills also was named to the all-tournament team -- her second this season.

Hills and the rest of the Yellow Jackets begin the 2005 OAC Tournament on Tuesday, Nov. 1 as the number two-seed and will host number seven-seed and Cleveland cross-town rival John Carroll University. The match is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m. at the Ursprung Gymnasium. The winner of that game will advance to the OAC "Final Four" on Friday and Saturday (Nov. 4-5) at the highest remaining seeded team.

Sonnenberg helped lead the B-W men's swimming and diving team to a 143-89 victory against OAC-rival Mount Union on Saturday in the conference opener in Alliance. Sonnenberg won the 1,000-yard freestyle event in a school record-setting time of 10:14.88. He also won the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:56.24.

Sonnenberg and the B-W swimming and diving teams will travel to Oberlin College on Wednesday, Nov. 2 for a non-conference dual meet against the Yeomen. The meet is scheduled to begin at 5:00 p.m.

Neff earned her second OAC Women's Soccer Player of the Week honor this season by virtue of her efforts in 1-0 shutout wins versus Ohio Northern University and Wilmington College.  Neff also earned the accolade on Oct. 4 for her efforts in shutout wins versus Hiram College (4-0) and Muskingum College (2-0).

In the two games last week, Neff faced 17 total shots and made seven saves and did not allow a goal in 191:53 of action.  She is currently third in the OAC by allowing just 0.84 goals per game and ranks second in save percentage (.882) and saves per game (6.32).  Neff has already set a B-W single-season school-record for shutouts played with 12.

This week, the Yellow Jackets women's soccer, 13-4-2 overall and seeded third, travel to Bexley, Ohio to play Capital University on Wednesday, Nov. 2 in an OAC Tournament semifinal game at 2:00 p.m.  The winner advances to Satuday's OAC Championship Game.
