Clyde Lamb Award Honorees
BEREA, OHIO - Recent Baldwin-Wallace College graduates and senior football Academic All-American Justin Andes (Canal Fulton/ Central Catholic) and senior volleyball and three-time All-Ohio Athletic Conference player Laura Leach (Norwalk/ Senior) have been named as B-W’s honorees for the 2005 OAC Clyde Lamb Award. The OAC honors a male and female student-athlete from each school with the Clyde Lamb Award symbolizing each as the top student-athlete at their respective school. Justin Andes played four years of football and earned four varsity letters in addition to maintaining a 3.79 grade point average as a biology major. He intends on becoming a doctor or surgeon.
Andes was a second-team CoSIDA Academic All-American in 2004 and helped the Yellow Jackets finish the season 6-4 overall. He was a three-time CoSIDA Academic All-District IV selection and a three-time Academic All-OAC award winner. Andes was also chosen as the B-W honoree to the Cleveland Touchdown Club as a senior.
On the playing field, Andes was a key defensive back for the B-W defense during his four-year career including being a starter the past two seasons. As a junior, Andes helped B-W finish 10-2 overall and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Division III Playoffs. He started the final nine games at cornerback and was sixth on the team in tackles with 64, including 25 in two NCAA Playoff games (a career-high 14 in a 54-32 win versus Hanover of Indiana). In 2004, he was third on the team with 55 tackles and led the team with nine pass break-ups. Andes earned ESPN THE MAGAZINE/ CoSIDA second-team Academic All-America honors, was a CoSIDA Academic All-District IV pick for the third straight year and was a first-team All-OAC selection. For his career, he finished with 123 total tackles, four interceptions, 22 pass breakups and two fumble recoveries.
Andes was a Dean’s List student and a member of the Alpha Lambda Honor Society and the Dayton C. Miller Honor Society. He was also a member of the Pre-Med club.
Laura Leach played four years of volleyball as a starting middle hitter and earned four varsity letters. She is a three-time All-OAC award winner including being a two-time Academic All-OAC and earned third-team CoSIDA Academic All-District IV acolades as a senior.
Individually, Leach ended her career as one of the best middle hitters to ever wear the Brown & Gold. Laura's 1,350 career kills ranks fourth all-time and both her .315 hitting percentage and 145 career solo blocks each rank third. As a senior, she led the team in kills (629), hitting (.337), solo blocks (63) and total blocks (87) en route to being named as a first-team All-OAC, Academic All-OAC, first-team AVCA All-Great Lakes Region and third-team CoSIDA Academic All-District IV. Leach also earned OAC Player of the Week honors (For the week of 10/3-10/10)
In the classroom, Leach was a Dean’s List student who finished with a 3.77 grade point average in business administration and political science. She is also a member of the Alpha Lambda Academic Honor Society, Pi Gamma Mu Social Science, Pi Sigma Alpha Political Science and Buisness Honor societies. In addition, Leach was inducted into the Dayton C. Miller Honor Society as a senior.
