Three Baldwin-Wallace College Student-Athletres Picked as This Week's Ohio

Athletic Conference Players-of-the-Week

BEREA, OHIO -- Three Baldwin-Wallace College student-athletes, two swimmers and record-setting football middle linebacker Joe Geoege (Massillon/ Perry), have been picked as this week's Ohio Athletic Conference players-of-the-week. The swimmers are sophomore Ambica Iyengar (Bangalore, INDIA) and Matt Laughlin (Centerville).

George was tabbed as the OAC Defensive Player of the Week for his 11-tackle effort in a 17-14 win against OAC and Cleveland cross-town rival John Carroll University. For George, the honor capped a great four-year career as a starter on the Yellow Jacket defense. His 11 tackles against JCU give him a team-leading 111 this season and the 11 gave him 334 in his four-year career and surpassed Kert Boedicker's (1982-85) previous school-record of 330. As a junior, George was named both second-team All-OAC and Academic All-OAC. So far this fall, George has already been tabbed as a first-team CoSIDA/ ESPN THE MAGAZINE Academic All-District IV selection and now qualifies for the ESPN THE MAGAZINE Academic All-America ballot. George carries a 3.6 grade point average in pre-med.

Laughlin earned his honor for his efforts in helping the men's swim team improve to a perfect 4-0 overall with an 88-61 win versus nonleague rival Ohio Wesleyan University last Saturday in Berea. Individually, Laughlin won the 400-yard individual medley in 4:38.50 and the 200-yard butterfly in 2:10.04. He also swam on the winning 400-yard medley relay team.

Iyengar earned her OAC Swimmer of the Week honor, the third of her two-year career, for her efforts last Saturday versus OWU. Iyengar individually won the 400-yard IM in 5:02.74 and the 200-yard butterfly in 2:24.66. She also swam on the winning 400-yard freestyle relay team.
