Yellow Jacket Seniors Joe George and Liz Redd are 2006 Ohio Athletic

Conference Clyde A. Lamb Award Winners

BEREA, OHIO—Baldwin-Wallace College senior standouts Joe George (Massillon/ Perry) and Liz Redd (Canton/ GlenOak) were selected as the Yellow Jacket recipients of the 2005-2006 Ohio Athletic Conference Clyde A. Lamb Award at the 22nd Annual OAC Awards Banquet in Columbus on May 15.

The Clyde A. Lamb award is annually given to one senior male and one senior female student-athlete from each OAC school. The student-athlete must have a minimum 3.00 grade point average and have participated in at least two years of varsity sport. The award is regarded as the highest honor a student-athlete can receive in the OAC as it symbolizes the best and brighest in the conference.

George, a four-year starter and letterman on the football team, ended his career as the all-time leading tackler in school history with 334. He is two players in school history to have two seasons with at-least 100 tackles.

During his career, George earned Division III All-American honors and was a three-time All-OAC, three-time Academic All-OAC and three-time CoSIDA Academic All-District IV selection. In addition, George was the Kenneth Steingass Outstanding Senior Male Athlete Award winner, B-W’s Player of the Year to the Cleveland Touchdown Club and was a National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete Award winner. He also served as a team captain in 2005-2006.

In the classroom, the pre-med major who will attend graduate school Ohio University, carried a 3.7 grade point average, was a Dean’s List students and member of the Alpha Lambda and Omicron Delta Kappa honor societies and the Pre-Med Club.

Redd, a four-year letter winner on the track team, will finish her career as one of the best runners in school history. She also has led the Yellow Jacket women to two straight OAC indoor and two consecutive OAC outdoor titles as well as two indoor and two outdoor All-Ohio Division III crowns.

Individually, Redd has earned All-OAC honors on 12 separate occasions, including winning three individual titles. This past weekend (May 12-13, 2006) at the 2006 OAC Outdoor Track & Field Championship Meet, she was named as the Co-Most Valuable Track Athlete, and twice this spring was tabbed as the OAC Track Runner of the Week.

At the OAC Championship Meet, Redd won individual titles in the in the 100 and 200-meter dashes and she ran on the winning 400 and 1600-meter relay teams. Redd set an OAC-record in the 100 meters with a time of 12.16 seconds, had individual career-bests in the 100 and 200 dashes as well as on both relay teams and is qualified for the Division III National Championship Meet (May 25-27 at Benedictine, Ill. College) in the 100 and 200 dashes individually and as a member of the 400 relay. Indoors, Redd won an individual title this winter in the 300-meter dash and earned All-OAC honors in three events overall.

Redd also has earned All-Ohio honors on nine separate occasions. She was part of the winning 400-meter relay team that set a school-record at the All-Ohio meet as a junior in 2004-2005. As a senior, Redd won the 200-meter dash and was second in the 100 meters and was a member of All-Ohio relay teams at 400 and 1600 meters.

In the classroom, Redd had a 3.78 grade point average as an education major and intends to teach and coach either at the high school or collegiate level. She is a Dean’s List student who is a member of the Alpha Lambda, Dayton C. Miller and Omicron Delta Kappa honor societies. Earlier this year, Redd was named as a recipient of the Ohio Association of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (OAHPERD) Memorial Scholarship.
