All-Ohio Athletic Conference Teams
BEREA, OHIO -- Five Baldwin-Wallace College basketball players, led by senior Erika Schultz (Waterville/ Anthony Wayne High School), have been named to the 2004 Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference teams.
Schultz, who was named last week as the Helen Ludwig Ohio Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Year by a vote of the OAC Coaches, is joined on the first-team by fellow seniors Karissa Kusick (Chicora, Pa./ Karns City) and Lindsay Meek (Huron/ Port Clinton) as well as sophomore point guard Nikki Altenweg (Perry). Junior point guard Tom Harrington (North Royalton/ Parma Hts. Holy Name) represented the men's team as an honorable mention pick.
Schultz recently ended an outstanding four-year career with 1,059 points to rank eighth all-time at B-W and with 738 rebounds to rank fourth. The health and physical education major who carries a 3.7 grade point average and was recently named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District IV team, averaged 14.0 points and 7.4 rebounds for the Yellow Jackets, 23-4 overall. She also shot 54.8 percent from the floor and 74 percent from the foul line. During her brilliant four-year career, Schultz helped B-W compile a 94-19 record with two OAC regular season titles, one OAC Tournament crown and at least two NCAA Division III national tourney appearances, including an "Elite Eight" finish as a freshman.
Kusick was a four-year letterman who is a member of the Academic All-OAC team for the second straight year. She was a second-team pick a year ago. Kusick averaged 6.9 points and 3.7 rebounds per game and was second on the team with 67 assists. She carries a 3.82 GPA in chemistry.
Meek, who joined Schultz as a third-team CoSIDA Academic All-District IV choice, averaged 4.8 points and 2.1 rebounds per game. She carries a 3.98 grade average in health and physical education.
Altenweg started at the point for the second straight year for the Yellow Jackets and averaged 6.6 points and 2.5 rebounds per game. She led B-W in assists with 96 and steals with 64. Altenweg carries a 3.79 GPA in math/ education.
Harrington started on the men's team at point guard for the second straight year and led the Yellow Jackets to an 18-8 overall record and second place finish in the OAC. He avereaged 8.6 ppg. and 3.0 rpg. and led the OAC in assists with 139. Harrington was also second with 36 three-pointers and 28 steals. He carries a 3.5 grade point average in health and physical education.
