State University of New York at Buffalo, M.A. and Ph.D. in History
What have you learned while teaching at B-W?:
B-W is the type of college and has the type of students that I like to teach.
What inspired you to get into college teaching?:
I suppose I am the “eternal sophomore.” I wanted to teach on a college level ever since I was 14. I chose history because I had from High School up through Graduate excellent History teachers. I hoped to emulate them.
Describe the ways in which you mentor students interested in your department:
When I was Chair of the Dept. I did more of this. I still talk to most Athletic recruits who might be interested in History.
If you weren't teaching what would you be doing?:
I have a summer home in Canada. I, otherwise, don’t know- I have taught since I was 21 years old. I still get a super “kick” out of it
What do students like best about your class?:
I believe it is my lecture style, my weird sense of humor, my interest in them as individuals and my willingness to meet with them. My classes are usually full and I have very few drops.
