What made you return to College?  I was downsized from my previous place of employment, an Outpatient Imaging Center, in March of 2009.  I knew that if I wanted to move forward in my career search I needed to get my Bachelor Degree.

Has your coursework affected your career plan? Being a student at B-W prepared me for my current position.  I had been an MRI Technologist for 12 years, but just completed an Intro. to Marketing course and an Excel/Access course at B-W.   All of which, combined with my MRI experience helped me obtain my current full time position.

Why did you choose to attend B-W? I felt the staff worked hard to help me with financial aid and assisted me with my Workforce Investment Act grant.  I didn’t feel like I was going to get “lost in the shuffle.”  B-W is great with the non-traditional student.

Please list any information regarding internships, scholarships, B-W organization involvement, etc.:
Workforce Investment Act Grant
B-W Lakeland Transfer Scholars Award
B-W Associates Award
Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship

Do you have a favorite story you’d like to share so that others can get a feel for the B-W experience?
I was taking Applied College Math and having a hard time with the course content.  Barb Aylward, Professor and Tutor, held tutoring sessions on Monday nights at the Beachwood campus.  I was able to learn and understand all of the course work because of her.  There was an especially difficult chapter and Barb even came in on a Saturday morning to work with me on some of the problems.  She always believed in me and made me realize I could do well in this course!  Tutors can and do make a difference.

Other information you would like to share including any advice for new students? It is hard to work full time, attend college, keep up with your children and family and still find time for exercise and friends.  However, it can be done but you must have good time management skills and prioritize weekly.  Don’t give up!
