Transfer Spotlight

Russell Marty

Anticipated graduation year:  Spring 2009

Degree/Major:  Mild/Moderate Educational Needs

Why did you choose to attend B-W?  Not only does Baldwin-Wallace have an excellent reputation by name, its education department made choosing this college an easy decision.

How did your courses transfer to B-W from other institutions? I earned my Associate’s Degree from Lorain County Community College and nearly every credit transferred.  The staff was very helpful in making my transition as smooth as possible.

What is your campus involvement outside the classroom? I’m always looking for ways to become involved.  I’m currently involved in an education group called Teaching Together, a literacy group called First Book which distributes books to children in need, and STAND (Students Taking Action Now for Darfur) which addresses awareness of the genocide that’s going on in the Sudanese region.

Please share an experience that strongly influenced you and/or benefited you. As a transfer student, I found the admission staff to be extremely helpful throughout the entire process.  My questions mattered and I felt like a real student—not a number or statistic.  Every question that I had was answered promptly and thoroughly.

How is B-W supporting or preparing you to attain your goals?  An exceptional part of the education program at BW is the opportunity to get into the field beginning with your first semester.  I believe that first hand observations and experiences better shape the teaching candidate for the future and the more the better.  The staff is well rounded and has real world experience in both the public and private school systems.  The knowledge that they pass to the students is priceless.
