Anticipated graduation year: Spring 2009
Degree/Major: Bachelor of Arts in Organizational Leadership with a minor in Psychology
Current career field: I am a Client Account Representative at Safeguard Properties, a nationwide property preservation company based in Cleveland.
Has your coursework affected your career plans? Once I graduate from B-W, I plan to pursue my dream of attending law school. I have wanted to study law for a long time, and through the Organizational Leadership major, I have been given the opportunity to take classes such as Legal Environment of Organizations, which helped to broaden my interest in the many facets of law.
B-W has helped me look at situations in my life in a new way; to stop and ask myself what I have learned, and how can I apply it to the new challenges that life brings my way. No matter what path one takes in life, it’s important to never stop learning. Whether it’s a new job, a new baby, or any other new endeavor, life is a learning experience.
What do you like best about Baldwin-Wallace College? I love that the professors really know how to apply their subject matter to life situations. I can’t count how many times I have taken something that I learned in a course and put it to use outside of the classroom. Steve Kaber, who teaches Legal Environment of Organizations, helped fuel my desire for law school and offered me tips on studying for the LSAT.
Why did you choose to attend B-W? The main factor in my choice was flexibility. I never thought it would be possible for me to be both a full-time adult degree completion student and a full-time employee, but B-W has proven that it’s possible and manageable as well! The minimester courses are a great way to be a full time student, while only attending classes a few nights a week. Immersion courses and weekend classes also make scheduling school around work more convenient.
Before coming to B-W, I attended classes at the University of Akron as well as Cuyahoga Community College. When I transferred to B-W almost every single credit hour I had transferred. I received a B-W Transfer Scholarship, which has greatly helped to reduce the amount of money I need to borrow in order to fund my education.
Words of wisdom to share with other adult degree completion students:
Take courses that will challenge you and you won’t be disappointed. Get to know your professors because they are incredibly knowledgeable and helpful people. Most importantly, enjoy your time here, and take what you learn with you into the real world because using the knowledge you’ve gained is the truest example of a quality education.
