Evening/Weekend Spotlight
Wendy Talbott-Broccone
Anticipated graduation year: 2009
Degree/Major: Bachelor of Arts in either Pychology and/or Organizational Leadership. I have completed the certificate in Human Resources Management.
Career field now: Amerigas/ Regional Training Manager
Why did you choose to attend B-W? I attended a Covey workshop at B-W: What Matters Most, and determined that completing my degree was one accomplishment that mattered most to me. When I attended the program I immediately felt this was the kind of environment I would enjoy and thrive in.
What do you like best about Baldwin-Wallace College? 1) B-W attracts world-class instructors. I have enjoyed great relationships with many of my professors and the advising staff. 2) Now that more courses are offered at B-W East, things are even better. 3) When I was laid off from work after over 24 years with one company, Career Services provided outstanding support during my transition.
Faculty person(s) or course that strongly benefited you: Dr. Sean Gilmore: Diversity in America. Dr. Gilmore provided a safe and fun learning environment while tackling a tough topic: diversity. My class project will be used in my work environment. We’re planning diversity training and will incorporate the program I developed for the class assignment into our program at work. Dr. Theresa Graham: Math and the Humanities. I really don’t like Math. I don’t usually “get it”. I studied hard, did the homework, used the math tutoring support and earned an “A”! Dr. Graham explained things so well, even I got it. She really knows how to communicate challenging concepts to folks who are in that class because they are not good at math.
Career plans upon graduation: I plan to establish a consulting practice that includes coaching as well as training and organizational development
How has your coursework affected your career plans? I probably would not have had the experience and knowledge to take my career to higher levels and to contemplate developing an independent practice.
Please list any information regarding B-W organization involvement, etc.: I completed the Certified Peer Educator program and worked for a time with other students on a couple of projects. I was Business Manager of the Exponent for one semester, Fall 2007, and had a great experience.
If you attended another college before B-W, please tell us the name of the institution and how many credits transferred? I attended Tri-C and virtually all of my credits transferred. I did not complete an Associates Degree while attending Tri-C. This was another great reason to attend BW: their relationship with Tri-C is a real plus.
Other information you would like to share including any advice for new students? Get involved in the classroom. Immerse yourself in the experience. Use the classroom to network with others, especially professionals in your field. Take it beyond the classroom. I’ve made some good friends while attending B-W. Get involved in on-campus activities. Be open to learning. It’s the only way to survive in today’s world and today’s workplace.
