What were your goals when you first enrolled as an adult degree student at B-W, and how was B-W able to help you achieve them?
My goal when I enrolled was to complete a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and move into the corporate arena. In pursuit of that goal I developed relationships with faculty and staff. As a result I was able to gather some valuable advice and guidance. This, along with my coursework, led to an interest in the field of Ethics. I was able to obtain an internship with KeyBank that dealt directly with Key’s Code of Ethics which solidified my interest in the field and led to my current position.
My four year degree has opened doors beyond what I initially expected. Having a degree does not guarantee a position; however, there are so many more opportunities available once a degree is earned. Because of my classroom experiences, faculty mentors and actively pursuing my interest in corporate ethics, I have achieved my goal.
What was the most important thing you learned while attending B-W?
I learned that you get what you give. If a person sits around and waits for the world to be delivered on a silver platter they will be waiting for a very long time. If you are interested in something, pursue it! An active, focused pursuit of your goals will inevitably pay off.
What advice would you give to current or prospective students?
Actively investigate your passions/interests. If you are interested in something look into it to see what makes it tick. Uncover what it takes to become involved with that area. Ask questions and use the answers to help formulate your path. In addition to my course work, I joined SHRM (Society for Human Resource Managers) where I made some valuable contacts. I am also a member of ASL (Alpha Sigma Lambda National Honor Society for adult degree completion students). I really made the most of my time and experiences at B-W.
