One of those things many college students first encounter when they move into their dorm, away from mom and dad for the first time is the joys of doing laundry.  Usually that’s a sarcastic expression, right?

I have a confession to make.  I’ve come to love doing my own laundry. I’m an organizer at heart, and sorting all of my clothes out and folding them up and having everything neat and clean is a very satisfying feeling for me.  Don’t let this fool you though—I know how to stack up a pile of laundry with the best of them.

Let me explain.  These past two years I’ve had great closet space. And closets are wonderful because they hide all manner of untidy things.  Sometimes opening the door to the closet becomes treacherous.  Without fail, those dirty socks sneakily make their way out of the closet and pants end up hanging from bedposts. Which, therefore, makes it all the more satisfying when I gather up this mess, toss it in the washer, and end up with a great selection of clothes the next morning when I’m getting ready.  Even better, laundry in the residence halls is one of those things that you can use your Jacket Express for on campus.  So I never have to scramble for quarters either!  I’m going to miss swiping my laundry when I head out here soon into the real world.
