My sorority is having a philanthropy event coming up on March 29th in Grindstone. We are having a silent basket auction and they’re going to be so many cute baskets that are $25-$100 worth. I want to do a kitchen theme and have a basket filled with measuring cups, oven mittens, and other cooking supplies. I might even put a cookbook in there. Hopefully none of my sisters have taken this idea yet because I’m already having a hard time coming up with other ideas. We are also allowed to pair up with someone, so my partner is helping out with some ideas. I’m also considering doing a ice cream theme filled with gift cards to different ice cream shops, ice cream scoopers, ice cream cones, sprinkles, fudge, etc.
We are raising money for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and it’s really important that everyone on campus comes out and shows some support. I think Diabetes in general is a dangerous disease and it breaks my heart knowing children are suffering through it. My dad was diagnosed with Diabetes years ago, probably before I was born, and through out my life he has lost a limb and developed kidney failure and heart disease. Diabetes can and will take over your life if you don’t take care of yourself. When I was younger I didn’t know anything about diabetes and I didn’t take it seriously. I wish I knew what I know now so I can help my dad make better choices. All I can do now is help him with the cards he is dealt with and support the research for better medicine and cures.
