  4. Biography

    Hi all,

My name is Jay Shamlin and I am rising senior here at Baldwin Wallace. Originally from the suburbs of Chicago, I'm pursing a degree in Public Relations with a minor in marketing. Furthermore, I'm involved in many campus activities which include; BW men's volleyball, Arts Management Association, giving tours in the Admission Office and Student Assisting for the women's volleyball team here.

Questions and answers

Why did you choose to attend Baldwin-Wallace?

As a kid, I've always wanted to move away from home at a young age. I first started looking at schools out west but soon realized that it was too far away from home and finding a school closer to home would be more ideal. BW turned out to be the perfect fit for a number of reasons. First and for most it had my major and desired sport. In addition, most of my extended family lives 40 minutes west, so if I ever needed anything or wanted to go home for a weekend, I still had family close to me.

What is your favorite thing about BW?

Growing up near a major metropolitan area, I personally could not go to school in a place that is miles away from a city. BW happens to be the perfect mix of city and suburban life. Located twenty minutes outside of Cleveland, there is plenty of things for students to do on and off campus. Everything from the Rock and Roll Hall of fame to little Italy; Cleveland offers some of the finest dinning, shopping, and entertainment.

What advice would you give to prospective students?

Enjoy your senior year of high school! I promise that applying to all of those colleges will eventually pay off, but please do not stress your self out over your ACT score not being high enough or your GPA is not strong enough. The memories you will make in that last year of high school will last forever, embrace those moments.
