CLEVELAND HAS TALENT TOO
Last week, in my acting workshop class, Doug Snyder, an agent from The Talent Group, a Cleveland and Pittsburgh based talent agency came to speak with us. The Talent Group is a full service agency, which represents models, actors, live promotional, and voice talent and has affiliates in
Toronto, San Francisco, New York, and Los Angeles. We’ve been learning on-camera acting, with a concentration on scene work, this semester in workshop so his presentation was timely and also, as a bonus, allowed Doug to basically audition talent from our sophomore music theatre class. He gave us all insight into what the Talent Group is all about, and coached us on how to conduct ourselves as professionals during auditions and bookings.
We each prepared one thirty second commercial spot, which was recorded to get feedback from Doug. I chose a spot for Cleveland's Harley Davidson Store, and he told me that I had one of the top three "auditions", which was very encouraging. Apparently, this was the first time in his many years of coming to Baldwin Wallace that he honestly felt he'd gladly sign any of us. He encouraged us all to contact him about our interest in doing commercial work in Cleveland. I have a strong interest in doing print and commercial work, in addition to music theatre, so I emailed Doug the next business day and asked about setting up an interview, upon which he called me directly in for an audition for a commercial. I was happy to be considered right away for projects and now I have actually signed my first professional contract with an agency. It's great that I am in such a supportive environment in the BW Music Theatre Program, which allows me to be in school full time and still be submitted for professional work.
