April at Baldwin Wallace Conservatory is the most pivotal and crucial month in an MT Major’s career. Why? SHOWCASE. Showcase season is when all the MT seniors get to go to New York and perform for the industry professionals (agents, managers, and casting directors) in hopes of being signed by an agency the following week they are there. We are lucky here at BW that we have such a well recognized and attended showcase, as some college MT programs don't even do a NY showcase or receive a good turnout. After last year's ground breaking showcase with the 2013 seniors, There is even more interest this year to see how BW could possibly top the epic performance they gave last year, but Vicky nailed it, no surprise.
For those of you who missed it...Vicky and Greg went all out with the group numbers with the help of some wonderful benefactors like Tim Misney and his wife. The showcase opened with Joy of the Lord from "Hands on a Hardbody" with original choreography from the show staged by a guest artist and Corey Mach, who is a BW grad, and was in the original production. The number was soulful and very high energy, a perfect way to kick off the showcase. The rest of the performance consisted of two short cuts per-senior that are seamlessly melded together with the musical genius of Nancy Maier. This year also marks Nancy's last showcase with BW so it was especially nostalgic for everyone involved. Some standouts for me were, Caitlin Houlahan, who sang a hilarious number from "Henry and Mudge" called Party Dress and reprised her role as "Carrie" singing the title song. Also, Ryan Hook, Chris Cowan and Andrew Way, had some beautiful and memorable material. The boys do an awesome tap number from “Book of Mormon”. The closing number is yet to be revealed to the New York audience, therefore to you, my followers as well. All I can say is, it's a "Rocking", "kick-butt" song and NO ONE should mess with this class. I can't wait to see how the showcase is perceived and what kind of representation the class is offered. Like they said last year "go showcase, go showcase"!
