Bachelor of Arts
Broadcasting & Mass Communication
Hi! My name is Ashlee and I am a 2009 graduate of BW!!! While at BW I was involved in a multitude of things because after an amazing Summer Orientation I knew I wanted to immerse myself in campus life!
During my time I was a proud member of Delta Zeta Sorority, BW Varsity Cheerleading, Student Government, 88.3 The Sting, Dance Marathon, and I eventually became a Summer Orientation Leader! I also worked on campus as a tour guide and in the Business Administration Office.
When it came time to find an internship, mine came through a BW alum who introduced me to my future boss at LRMR Marketing. LRMR was established in 2007 to run the business side of basketball star LeBron James (Yes- it takes an entire company to do this :-))!
I am currently living and working in NYC which has been my dream for as long as I can remember. I am working at Strategic Group and my current boss is a very good friend of LeBron's (See, its all about networking)! My current role due to it complexity has no title but I play right hand to the CEO, work at each of our venues (10+) on celebrity driven events including one of our Vegas properties which is the highest grossing in the United States, wrangle celebrities for events, and run our company internship program among other things.
People tend to ask what is the coolest thing I've ever done and I would have to say opening a property this past New Year's Eve and playing an integral part in the event in which Jay-Z, Cold Play, Kanye West and Beyonce took the stage together!
Questions and answers
What is your favorite thing about BW?
I loved that BW was always a place of endless opportunity. Being a small school so close to a big city essentially gives you the best of both worlds; you get to be an actual name in class and on campus while at the same time getting exposed to some of the best professionals in the field especially in my Broadcasting and PR field.
What advice would you give to prospective students?
A few words of advice from an old gal like me...Don't hold back, college is the time to experiment - be sure to make mistakes and take risks; all these things will make you a better professional in the end. Don't be afraid to step out of your box - BW can be your canvas all you have to do it throw some paint on it!
How did BW help you prepare for life after college?
This one is a no-brainer. I now live in New York City arguably the fastest paced city in the world and I feel that the adjustment has been seamless. While at BW I was always moving from academics to athletics to social events and so on and that taught me how to prioritize and understand how to get from A-Z efficiently which is a priceless tool for me.
What would you have changed about your undergraduate experience?
The absolute only thing I would change about my undergraduate experience is that by being SO immersed in campus life I did not find the time to travel abroad. With BW's extensive overseas programs I sometimes wish I would have taken advantage.
