Your plan is set. Your goals are in sight. Believe it or not, now is a great time to look back and see how far you’ve come. How have your definitions of success shaped your experiences these last three years? The perspective you gain will be of great value as you embark on your next chapter.
Document your experiences
Reflect on your “definition of success” statements over the last three years. What’s different now? Update your E-Portfolio to give examples of how your definitions of success have influenced your B-W experiences – and vice versa.
Get ready for grad school
Are you graduate school bound? Attend a graduate school workshop and download the timeline for your graduate program from the Career Services blackboard site. Meet with your faculty advisor and career advisor to implement your plan. Remember to register for graduate school admission exams.
Review the graduate and professional school timelines located on the Career Services Blackboard site. Examine your record: have you taken enough upper-level courses in the field you want to enter? Continue to challenge yourself in your final semester. Take courses that will prepare you for the rigorous atmosphere of graduate school. And remember, many schools require you to apply in the fall of your senior year. Talk to your advisor and ask professors to write recommendation letters.
Pack your social calendar
Take advantage of the many workshops, seminars and career fairs you can attend this year. Meet prospective employers. Learn about graduate programs. Polish your resume and interview skills. Visit the B-W Career Network for opportunities available to you.
Stay current
It’s time for the final update to your B-W Career Network profile. Upload new resumes, cover letters and letters of recommendation. Be sure your contact and academic information is up to date.
Practice makes...well, you know
Practice your interviewing skills all year long. Be able to clearly articulate how your skills, abilities, and collegiate experiences translate to the position you are seeking or to your graduate school plans.
Learn from the past
Connect with an alumni career mentor for an informational interview, career advice or one-day shadow experience. Visit the B-W Career Network to find a mentor match.
Ask for a reference
Select and ask professors, advisors and supervisors for employment or graduate school references. Keep them abreast of your future plans. Use the references to update your E-Portfolio.
