OK, so you’ve got a major now. (Or you should.) Don’t stop being curious. Keep track of the requirements for your major, but continue branching out to courses that broaden your curriculum. Maybe it’s courses in your minor. Or maybe there’s just something you always wanted to learn about. This is the time.
Make a plan
Most students have declared a major by now. Now is the time to develop an intentional plan for completion of the courses in your major. Discuss the plan with your advisor.
Document your experiences
Take the time to keep track of yourself. Continue to update your E-Portfolio, building your profile and documenting your activity and growth as you shape your collegiate plans.
Don’t skip the minor stuff
While you’re working on your major, continue to take courses in your minor that complement your major or that add breadth to your curriculum.
Explore an internship
Seriously consider an internship. You have the foundational background provided by the courses in your major, and can now integrate your off-campus experiences. Document your work in your E-Portfolio!
Explore graduate studies
Thinking about graduate school? Talk to your advisors and the professors in your major about the opportunities provided by an advanced degree and how you can best prepare for graduate study.
Share your knowledge
Consider becoming a tutor for other students. If you are a Business major, you may want to volunteer at the Tax Clinic or the Business Clinic. Contact the Learning Center about tutoring in other subject areas
