You’re more than halfway there. You have a clearer idea of your destination. Now it’s time to start leading. Get deeper into campus involvements that reinforce your major or career interests. Start to think about service learning or community outreach. You can make an impact that lasts.

Actions

Make an impact

Reflect on breadth-versus-depth in student organization involvement. Involvement in many activities exposes you to new ideas and situations, but really investing in one or two allows for more potential impact on an organization’s future.

Take a vacation

Go on an Alternative Spring Break trip. B-W programs around the country are a great immersion experience in volunteerism.

Begin to lead

As you become more involved with an organization or agency, talk to those in charge about how you might get more students involved. Consider pursuing (or accepting) a formal leadership role.

Talk the Talk

Sign up to  be a Buzz Volunteer, or participate in other recruitment outreach activities. It’s a great way to test how B-W messages ring true in real-life student experiences. (Note:  giving campus tours is a selective process; you can’t just sign up and give one)

Connect the dots

Reflect on your B-W activities and update your E-Portfolio. Always look for ways to link your coursework to your life outside the classroom.

Learn about leadership

Participate in a College-sponsored leadership retreat. It’s a great opportunity to network with other student leaders.

Chase your shadow

Shadow two campus leaders – one student and one faculty or staff member. Then use that experience to influence and update your Action Plan.
