Fall '03 Student Directed One-Act Plays

LINE
By ISRAEL HOROVITZ
Directed by Kate Sidley

Line is a dark comedy about five people waiting for their chance to steal first place.  Whether it's Stephen fast talking his way ahead or Molly sleeping her way to the top, people are willing to do anything to move up.  It doesn't matter what they're waiting for, all that matters is that when you stand a line on its end, it's a number 1.

THE ONTOLOGICAL PROOF OF MY EXISTENCE
By JOYCE CAROL OATES
Directed by Amanda Harland

The Ontological Proof of My Existence by Joyce Carol Oates is the story of a lost girl found by a self proclaimed "God".  It is the story of the father desperate to bring her home, and a mixed up man without a mind to call his own.  It is the demonstration of the effects of American society on the development of the individual.

I CAN'T IMAGINE TOMORROW
By TENNESSE WILLIAMS
Directed by Daniel Cecil

I Can't Imagine Tomorrow is a play about two characters inability to communicate with one another and their inability to change in a constantly oppressive world.  Included in Tennessee Williams' genius collection of one-act plays dubbed Dragon County, this play speaks volumes on the deterioration of person to person connections in an increasingly impersonal world.

WASP
By STEVE MARTIN
Directed by Michael Sherman

Wasp examines the "good old - fashioned values" of the 1950's nuclear family, where the dad has a thing for lawn games, the mother hears voices, the son talks to a spaceman, and the daughter has a serious God-complex.  Comic legend Steve Martin takes a turn as a playwright in this hilarious and poignant social satire.
