Scott Spence

spence.jpgScott Spence holds his BA in Theatre Arts from University of Nebraska (1984) and an MFA in directing from Western Illinois University (1986). For the past 14 seasons, Scott has been Artistic Director of The Beck Center for the Arts. In that time he has produced well over 150 shows, directing nearly half of them. Recently, Scott was nominated for an award of Achievement in Theatre from Northern Ohio Live for Beck's 2005/2006 season. Favorites over the years include Sweeney Todd, Tommy, Kiss of the Spider Woman, The Diviners, Parade, Reefer Madness, Picasso at the Lapine Agile and last season’s Urinetown and A Man of No Importance. He has also enjoyed directing gigs with JCC, Weathervane, and most recently, Cleveland Lyric Opera ("Das Barbecu"). Since 1998, Scott has served as an adjunct theatre faculty member at Baldwin-Wallace College. His association with the college has been long standing, including performances with Berea Summer Theatre. Directing credits include Noises Off, Dangerous Obsession, and as an actor, Big River, and the title role in Dick Deadeye. Scott is married to actress/teacher Rachel and adores their daughter, ten-year-old dynamo, Carleigh.
