Raymond Bobgan

Raymond Bobgan is the Executive Artistic Director of Cleveland Public Theatre,  CPT, Raymond has produced three full critically acclaimed seasons, created and implemented a successful financial stabilization plan, and grown CPT’s audience, while directing several lauded productions including a radical interpretation of Thornton Wilder’s Our Town and the East Coast premiere of Osama the Hero by Dennis Kelly. Raymond was recently selected by American Theatre Magazine as one of twenty five artists shaping the future of American theatre. As a director, Raymond specializes in devising new plays through an ensemble-driven process. He has created over twenty new performances including Blue Sky Transmission: A Tibetan Book of the Dead, which played Off-Broadway at La Mama Theatre and was lauded in The New York Times and American Theatre Magazine, Confessions of Punch and Judy which played at Toronto Theatre Centre and HERE Arts Center in New York, toured US, Canada, and Europe, and was recently published in New Canadian Theatre Volume 9: Devised Theatre.  Raymond has initiated, designed and implemented numerous outreach projects including STEP, a job training program for inner city teens, and the Y-Haven Theatre Project which engages residents of a treatment center for homeless men, in theatre creation and production.  Raymond’s theatrical work has been featured in American Theatre Magazine, Canadian Theatre Review, Theatre Journal, and in Lisa Wolford’s book Grotowski’s Objective Drama Research. His work has been seen in Romania, Brazil, Denmark, Serbia, The United Kingdom, and throughout Canada and the US. He is an alumnus of Theatre Communications Group/Pew Charitable Trust’s National Theatre Artist Residency Program and the TCG/National Endowment for the Arts Career Development Program for Directors, and was recently awarded an Artistic Excellence fellowship by the Ohio Arts Council.
