POL Professor Publishes an Article on South Korean-US Relations. Dr. Haesook Chae has published an article entitled "South Korean Attitudes toward the ROK–U.S. Alliance: Group Analysis," in the Features section of PS: Political Science & Politics (Vol. 43 Issue 3, p. 493-501).  In the article, Dr. Chae considers the following question: to what extent does the South Korean public supports policy changes on US-South Korean relations? Based on empirical analysis of South Korean public opinion polls, Dr. Chae asserts that: there is strong support for the alliance among South Koreans including anti-American progressives; for conservative and centrists, deterrence of North Korean aggression remains the key core for support to the ROK-US alliance; there is a on-going consensus on a new rationale for the alliance to promoting inter-Korean reconciliation; and that the younger South Korean generation, exhibits moderation and pragmatism in its ideological orientations.  A copy of this article is available in pdf format here.
