Neuroscience Laboratory Assistant - Portman

Ginger Portman

 Laboratory Assistant

Name:  Dominica Portman (Ginger)

Hometown:  Rota, Spain

Major:  Biology

Minor:  Chemistry, Neuroscience

Interests/hobbies:  photography, movies, traveling

Long-term goals:  To attend medical school

How I got involved:  I first heard about the lab through the Principles of Neuroscience course I took as a freshman.  It was the lab that interested me the most.  My sophomore year I decided to take action and talk to Dr. Mickley about becoming a lab assistant.

Your experience in the lab: Becoming a lab assistant is one of the best decisions I've made at Baldwin-Wallace.  The lab is a friendly learning environment but also challenges me to think critically.  I feel as though I learn something new every time I'm in lab, and have fun doing it too.

How the lab is helping you obtain your long-term goals:  Being a member of the Neuroscience Lab has taught me so much I wouldn't have learned anywhere else.  Dr. Mickley makes sure that we are all on the same page and gives us the freedom to be creative.  The knowledge and techniques I've obtained here are giving me the confidence and head-start needed for medical school.
