- Department Initiates "Careers in Mathematics" speaker series
- The Department will be hosting speakers on "Careers in Mathematics" throughout the academic year. The goal of the series is to invite speakers representing the many outstanding career opportunities available to mathematics students. On September 10, the series begins with the talk "Mathematics and Interest Rate Management" given by Tom Kovacevich '05, of Key Bank.
- New Mathematics Coordinator Named
- Beginning in August, 2008, Dr. David Calvis will assume the position of Coordinator for the Mathematics program. Dr. Calvis is replacing Dr. Timothy Riggle who served as Mathematics Coordinator during the 2007-2008 academic year. Previous to his duties as Mathematics Coordinator, Dr. Riggle had been Chair of the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science for over twenty years.
- Mathematics Major Named Outstanding Senior
Each spring, the College selects several seniors to be named as Outstanding Seniors. For the graduating class of 2008, Mathematics major Jennifer Cawrse was one of eight graduating students chosen to be Outstanding Seniors. Jennifer is now a high school mathematics teacher with the Willoughy-Eastlake School District. In addition, she will be assisting with the B-W volleyball team, on which she played during her undergraduate years here.
- 2007-08 Student Award Recipients
- The Department recognized outstanding Mathematics and Computer Science students at the Honors Awards Ceremony during Ovation 2008, Saturday, May 3, 2008.
- Mathematics Honorary Initiates Members
The Baldwin-Wallace Chapter of Kappa Mu Epsilon, national mathematics honorary, inducted 11 new members at its annual initiation ceremony on Saturday, March 28. The ceremony, held in the Grindstone Room of the College Union, concluded with parents and friends joining the initiates and departmental faculty for a reception.
