The LHE program is designed for candidates from a variety of backgrounds; they may be recent college graduates, working professionals in higher education, and degreed individuals seeking a career transition to higher education.
Full-Time Enrollment
Full-time students enroll in a cohort learning community, progressing through the program together. This approach enriches and supports the learning process as students build networks and collegial relationships.
Full-time students complete the program in two years, enrolling in two to three courses each semester along with 20 hours (minimum) internship a week.
Upon completion of this program, students will have strong understanding of the advantages of integrating the work of Student Affairs and Academic Affairs to offer maximum support for all college students, an informed understanding of the responsibilities and competencies needed for the variety of duties professionals in higher education perform, and raised awareness of the ethical, legal and political forces that shape the operations of different college and university offices.
Part-Time Enrollment
Are you currently working full-time in a college or university setting and know it's time to begin your master's degree? The LHE program has a part-time enrollment option for professionals already employed full-time at a college or university.
B-W's MAEd in Leadership in Higher Education is distinctive in that integrates courses that are relevant to careers in both Student Affairs and Academic Affairs. Core courses include student development theory, campus diversity and college outcomes. You will explore ethical decision making, funding and finance, curriculum and instruction, staff development, and marketing practices.
Applicants to the part-time program must have at least two years of full-time higher education employment, with at least one year in the current position before entering the program. Part-time applicants secure approval from their current employer to complete an internship that averages 8 hours per week as part of the program requirements. The part-time LHE program may be completed within two and a half years when taking one to two courses per semester. Classes meet one evening a week.
