Conditions of Entry
All Baldwin-Wallace College students, staff, faculty and administrators have access to Ritter Library. Library staff may request to see a current college identification card. Ritter Library reserves the right to prohibit access to the library to any individual who fails to comply with the policies of the library.
All other persons wishing to use Ritter Library's facilities must meet the following requirements:
Upon entering the library, guests must sign the guest register at the Circulation Desk, supplying complete address, and a specific reason for using Ritter Library. Proper identification with current address must be shown, e.g., a driver's license or photo-bearing identification card from another academic institution. High School students may also present a note from a teacher requesting that they be allowed to use Ritter Library for a specific purpose. When exiting, guests must stop at the Circulation Desk to sign out.
Authorized Borrowers
The following persons have full borrowing privileges from Ritter Library upon presentation of a current Baldwin-Wallace College identification card, or other identification as specified below:
1. Registered students in good standing.
2. Faculty members (full- and part-time).
3. Administrators.
4. College staff.
Anyone with a Cuyahoga County Public Library card, or a Clevenet Greater Access card, can borrow materials from Ritter Library via an OhioLINK loan. OhioLINK policies apply to these loans. These loans are possible because both Ritter Library and the Cuyahoga County Public Library system belong to the OhioLINK consortium. Note that the Cleveland Public Library system is not a member of OhioLINK.
Special borrowers cards are no longer being issued, but existing special borrowers cards will be honored.
Other persons wishing to borrow materials from Ritter Library must schedule an interview with the Library Director between the hours of 9 am and 5 pm, Monday through Friday.
Loan Periods and Limits
Loan periods and limits are determined by the type of material and the category of borrower. The information below is listed by type of material and is qualified, where necessary, by category of borrower.
Circulating Books:
Circulating books are loaned to:
1. B-W faculty members, administrators and library staff until the July 1st after the current school year without restriction as to number, subject to recall if requested by another borrower.
2. B-W students and B-W employees for three weeks, with a maximum of twelve books.
Circulating books can be renewed up to four times.
Renewals can be accomplished by patrons using the OPAL catalog Web interface.
Renewals can be requested by phone by faculty only.
Circulating books that are on hold for another borrower cannot be renewed.
Office and Rare Books:
Office books circulate to faculty, library staff and administrators only, for three days, limited to a maximum of ten items.Rare books do not circulate.
Periodicals and Reference Materials:
Periodicals and reference materials circulate to faculty, library staff and administrators, for three days, with a maximum of ten items. Materials are subject to recall by the library when needed. Students may sign out these materials only when they are to be given directly to the college's Media Services Department for preparation of materials for use in a class assignment or student teaching. Special permission is required on a case-by-case basis from a Reference Librarian on duty.The loan period is generally three days, but may also be specified by the librarian.Ready Reference materials do not circulate under any circumstances.
Audiotapes, CDs, Videotapes:
Audiotapes and CDs circulate only to Baldwin-Wallace students, staff, faculty and administrators, for seven days, with a maximum of ten items. Videotapes circulate only to faculty, staff and administrators for three days.
Microforms:
Microforms do not circulate.
Overdue Fines
Overdue fines are charged for circulating and reserve materials at the following rates:

Computer Access
Access to campus network computers in Ritter Library is limited to faculty, students, administration, staff, and alumni.A username and password is required. Alumni will be logged in by a Librarian. Access to the book catalog for non B-W users is available.
