Pre-Physical Therapy Major

Division of Health & Physical Education
(440) 826-7473

Exciting, challenging and rewarding, physical therapy is a people-focused, service-oriented profession that is at the forefront of today’s healthcare system.

Our program is comprehensive, theoretical and practical. The major has evolved into a strong knowledge based major with the added benefit of practical application and skills. Students graduating from this major at Baldwin-Wallace College are prepared not only with a strong science foundation but also the skills necessary for success in client/patient interaction, ability to assess and evaluate client/patient needs and ability to integrate this information into a rehabilitation or exercise program.

Strong academics
Real-world focused, our program combines the strengths of a liberal arts foundation with specialized coursework in pre-physical therapy.  Through hands-on initiatives and classroom studies, our program provides a solid foundation for post-graduate success.

Experiential
Many courses and co-curricular opportunities allow the students enrolled in this major to learn in a practical and applied classroom.  Students garner client evaluation skills, learn and demonstrate techniques in assessment and appropriate application of therapeutic modalities as part of this major.

Nearby to Cleveland and its range of hospitals, corporations and public health organizations, B-W’s location is suited to a range of internship possibilities.  In addition, we have community outreach initiatives, study abroad programs and student organizations that can help you develop your career potential.

Chatham College Partnership
An exciting partnership with Chatham College (Pittsburgh) offers B-W students a direct link into Chatham’s post graduate physical therapy, occupational therapy and physician assistant programs.

Ambassador Program at the University of St. Augustine
The University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences has an Ambassador Agreement with Baldwin-Wallace College. This agreement provides an educational track that will permit a student to select both an undergraduate major and a “targeted” post baccalaureate admission to the University of St. Augustine entry-level program in either Occupational Therapy or Physical Therapy. To find out more about this opportunity contact: Dr. Amy Jo Sutterluety at asutterl@bw.edu.

Pre-Physical Therapy/Exercise Science Student Organization
The Pre-Physical Therapy / Exercise Science Student Organization is a Student Senate-funded group designed for any HPE major interested in Health Promotion, Exercise Science, Pre-Physical Therapy or Athletic Training. The purpose of the club is to provide students with educational opportunities to enhance their knowledge of the physical therapy and exercise science profession. The programming helps students develop skills required for their chosen profession, prepare students for entry into the workforce and also to inform students about the requirements for graduate and professional programs.

Rapidly growing profession
Pre-physical therapy offers solid career opportunities.  Students who complete our program can pursue graduate education in physical therapy, physician assistance, chiropractics, podiatry and nursing.

Offered as a major.
