Language and Culture - LAS 155, LAS 156 & LAS 157

The one-credit LAS 155, 156 and 157 courses offered as a supplement to LAS 200 is a regular, non language course that explores the Spanish-American (LAS 155), the French (LAS 156) and the German (LAS 157) cultural perspective on enduring questions and current events discussed in LAS 200. In this S/U courses students collaborate in small-group settings exploring what Spanish-speaking, French-speaking or German-speaking authors reveal about enduring questions, as discussed in LAS 200, and on contemporary culture in these regions of the world. At the conclusion of the course, the successful student will be able to:

  • identify belief, values, norms and social practices associated with culture and subcultures in those countries that speak the target;
  • explain how some highlights of French/Spanish-American/German history impact French/Spanish-American/German culture and responses to enduring questions;
