Located on 75 acres of West Lancashire countryside, Edge Hill enrolls nearly 8000 undergraduate and postgraduate students. Another 3500 students enroll in short-term courses and other special programs. It is the largest college of higher education in the northern half of Britain and consists of five schools: Management and Social Sciences, Humanities and Arts, Sciences and Technology, Teacher Education, and Health Studies. As a long-standing partner with Baldwin-Wallace College, Edge Hill provides opportunities for students to study for 1 or 2 semesters on this self-contained British campus.
Studying at Edge Hill: In terms of class meeting times, independent reading and research projects, and assessment techniques, British colleges differ significantly from US educational institutions. Most courses at Edge Hill meet for lectures and seminar/ tutorial sessions, as well as encourage independent study. For these reasons, visiting students take only four courses per semester. It is your responsibility to secure the necessary approval from Baldwin-Wallace faculty to ensure that courses will satisfy academic needs and transfer back to BW. Visit the Explorations Center or www.edgehill.ac.auk for more information on courses offerings. Classes include: applied social sciences, business management, science, communication studies, education, history, modern European studies, sports studies, drama, and information technology.
Student-teaching in England: Are you an education major who is currently weighing your student teaching options? Are you interested in trying something that will positively impact your teaching career for years to come? Why not student teach in England? Working in conjunction with Edge Hill and BW’s Education Division, education majors have the opportunity to spend a semester student teaching in an Ormskirk school. Upon arrival, you will receive an orientation on the British Educational System. In addition, the International Student Teaching Coordinator will regularly offer assistance and supervision during your teaching assignment. The Coordinator will ensure that all report forms necessary for state certification are dispatched to Baldwin-Wallace College.
"...yes I'm ready to come home, but not quite sure I'm ready to leave England behind. It's a weird feeling." Andy at Edge Hill College, Spring 2003
Accommodations and Food: You will be provided with a private room in one of 11 residence halls on Edge Hill’s campus. Buildings are small, so you will easily make friends with fellow British and international students. Bathroom and kitchen facilities are located on each floor. Students have the option to dine in the Terrace Café (offering breakfast, lunch, and dinner 7 days a week), enjoy a more formal lunch in Sages Restaurant, or grab something to go from The Venue (Edge Hill’s social hub).
